Dixie lives in a small rural area west of Atlanta, Georgia. A move back to this area 2 1/2 years ago from the Gulf Coast of Florida has had a big impact on her upcoming work. The coastal scenery will continue to be an inspiration for some of her work, A love for nature's beauty always inspires much of her work. She now plans to also create pieces that are inspired by the sites and people of her surroundings. She is primarily a self-taught artist, working instintively with many mediums. Painting and drawing landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, pets and people all peak her interest. Depending on the circumstances and subject, she works in either oil, acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil, graphite, or pastel. A combination of mediums and added materials may be used for many pieces of her work. Before her move to Florida, she displayed in local stores and created commissioned work for her fellow Georgians. Dixie Hester's work has been shown in various galleries, juried shows and has been chosen for special projects while she was living in Florida. It has graced the homes of many who live and visit there. Now she has Georgia back on her mind and can hardly wait to create pieces that reflect its interesting people and majestic beauty.
